Over the past year, Jose and I have received many questions on Luna. These questions tend to usually revolve around how Luna was during her first year with us. The typical questions we get asked frequently tend to be questions surrounding her training. People want to know what it was like to train a puppy while living in an apartment. Or they may have questions regarding whether we liked using training pads or not. While most of the questions had to deal with training and her adapting to our life, there was one question that kept resurfacing quite a bit. This question was, why did we decide to name our little girl Luna?
To understand the significance of our little girl's name, you have to understand the story of how Jose and I met. Jose and I met in January of 2016. I had just moved down to Florida temporarily to participate in the Disney College Program. This program is an internship within the Walt Disney Company. I met Jose on my first day of training at the Tomorrowland Speedway in Disney's Magic Kingdom. He happened to be my trainer, as well as one of our best friends, Ashley. He was the first person that Ashley and I really got to know and connect with. While I am usually not the type who is cliché enough to say it was love at first sight, it was definitely something. I remember being quite fond of him right off the bat. He was incredibly easy to get along with, had a great sense of humor, and really made me feel comfortable during my first few days "on the job." Moving down to Florida, participating in this internship, and working an attraction was already scary enough; however, Jose was able to calm my nerves. I just couldn't pinpoint exactly how I felt about him, but I knew I wanted to at least become friends.
I became fast friends with Ashley, and she quickly learned that I was starting to have a thing for Jose. However, me being, well, me, I was not going to do anything about it right away. I am a pretty timid person, especially when it comes to guys, so this was way out of my comfort zone. I told myself that I wanted to be friends with him at the very least, and if something were to happen then, that would be great. Over those first couple of months, Ashley and I became quick friends with Jose. The three of us would hang out in the parks after our shifts and frequently go bowling or eat out with our fellow cast members.

It wasn't long before others started to catch on to my feelings towards him. At one point during the whole thing, I believed half of the cast at Speedway knew that I liked Jose, and I was terrified that he would find out. The last thing I wanted was to jeopardize our friendship if he did not feel the same way about me. Luckily for me, I had a good friend *cough cough* Ashley, who gave Jose a little push, and before I knew it, he was asking me out on a date. From that moment on, it was kind of end game for us. We went on a few dates, and shortly after that, we decided to make it official and actually start dating. And let me tell you, when we became official, like Facebook official, all our Speedway friends went crazy! It is so fun to look back at all the comments of "finally" and "it's about time." As some of you may already know, but for new readers who may not, Jose and I continued to date until August of 2019. It was then when Jose proposed to me in Washington D.C., on top of the Kennedy Center of the Performing Arts. When I look back at all those years ago, while it may not have been instantly love at first sight, there was definitely a spark from the very beginning, and there is no denying that. This is one of the many reasons why it was so important to us that our first dog had a meaningful name. We were determined to have a dog, which had a space-themed name. This is because Jose and I met and fell in love with each other in Disney's Tomorrowland. The futuristic and space-themed land inside of Disney's Magic Kingdom.
We contemplated on several names for both girls and boys. If we had gotten a little boy puppy, we were already pretty set on naming him Astro. However, when it came down to the girl's name, we were stuck on Luna, which translates to moon in Spanish, and Nova. When the time came for us to go and take a look at Luna, we still hadn't decided firmly on which name we were going to go with. And to be honest, we weren't entirely sure we were even going to get her that day, even though Jose claims he knew all along that we would. We decided that if we got a puppy that day, we would get a feel about which name suited her best on the car ride home. We tried saying Nova a few times and did the same thing with Luna. In the end, we felt that overall the name Luna suited her the best. We are so happy with how we were able to tie our history with the naming of Luna. She is a symbol and a reminder of our beginning and beautiful memories, which we will cherish for a lifetime.
